> Time to Degree

Students who do not complete all five of their Visiting Preliminary exam questions by the end of their second year in the doctoral program are not making satisfactory progress and will be put on academic probation by the Graduate School. Similarly, students who do not successfully pass their Oral Preliminary Exam by May of their third year in the doctoral program are not making satisfactory progress and will be put on academic probation by the Graduate School. If the requirement is not completed by the end of the following semester, the student’s graduate appointment can be terminated. Students encountering unforeseen difficulties in meeting these deadlines, such as extensive foundation course deficiencies, can request an extension from the Academic Affairs Committee. (adopted by faculty 1/16/01)
