Job Duties:

Obtain and maintain culture collections of fungi, nematodes, bacteria, and viruses for plant pathology teaching; produce cultures and/or diseased and healthy plants at appropriate stage of development for use in plant pathology courses; prepare materials and make microbiological media used in plant pathology courses; maintain glassware and equipment used in plant pathology teaching activities; purchase and maintain an inventory of all supplies used in plant pathology instruction; assist in the preparation of materials for plant pathology laboratory instruction and in the set-up and take-down of laboratory sessions.

Well Qualified Applicants:

Well qualified applicants will have completed at least one laboratory course in microbiology and have at least one year of recent professional experience in technical laboratory work involving bacteria, fungi, viruses, or nematodes. Experience with plants is desirable.

Skills Required:

Sterile technique for working with microorganisms; quality control principles and procedures for maintaining pure microbiological cultures; laboratory safety; organization and time management; ability to work in a team; effective interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
