> Minor Options

Candidates for a Ph.D. in the Department of Plant Pathology are also expected to develop expertise outside of the area of Plant Pathology by completing a minor. The UW Graduate School states: The minor is designed to represent a coherent body of work, taken as a graduate student, and should not be simply an after-the-fact ratification of a number of courses taken outside the major department. The minor requirement can be fulfilled by completion of a focused minor (Option A) or a distributed minor (Option B). (adopted by faculty 12/19/00)

Option A (external): Requires a minimum of 10 credits in a single department/major field of study. Selection of this option requires approval of the minor department. Students interested in an Option A minor should check with the minor department for details.

Option B: (distributed) to meet the requirements of the distributed minor, the student must earn a minimum of 10 graduate level credits from at least two departments, other than Plant Pathology. At least 3 credits of the minor requirement must be earned at UW-Madison. One course cross-listed between Plant Pathology and another department can be used for the minor as long as it is not a required course for the Plant Pathology degree (adopted by faculty 12/19/00).
