Foundation courses are basic science courses, usually completed
prior to entering graduate school. If foundation course requirements
have not been fulfilled beforehand, they must be completed as
early as possible in the graduate student's course of study.
Biological sciences: A course in three out of the four areas
is required: Genetics, Structure of Organisms, Function of Organisms
and Ecology. In addition, an introductory-level course in Plant
Pathology
Chemistry: General Chemistry, 2 semesters; Organic Chemistry,
including laboratory; Biochemistry, one semester at the upper
undergraduate level.
Physics: equivalent to two semesters, including electricity
and light.
Mathematics: Introductory Calculus, including both differential
and integral calculus.
Recommended: additional courses in mathematics; computer programming;
statistics including analysis of variance and regression analysis.
Departmental Courses
PP 300# Introduction to Plant Pathology
PP 505# Plant-Microbes Interactions
PP 559# Diseases of Economic Plants
PP 602# Ecology and Epidemiology
PP 799 Teaching Practicum
PP 875 Special Topics Seminar
PP 923 Proposal seminar
PP 923 Final Research Seminar
#If a major requirement has been met at another institution,
the Curriculum Committee must approve a completed course waiver
form.
The remainder of the course requirements for the Ph.D. degree
in Plant Pathology will be selected to meet the student's specific
needs and to ensure breadth and depth as determined through consultation
with his/her major professor and other members of the research
committee. Combined programs involving both Plant Pathology and
another discipline as a joint major for the Ph.D. degree may be
arranged.
