It Takes A Village: Cooperation Between Animals and their Microbial Communities

November 12, 2005
Madison, Wisconsin

On November 12, 2005, the Handelsman Lab hosted an inter-laboratory meeting to explore and discuss current understanding and future directions in studying the relationships between animals and their endosymbiotic microbial communities. The meeting included members of the Handelsman Lab, Margaret McFall-Ngai's Lab (School of Medicine, Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology), Ned Ruby's Lab (School of Medicine, Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology), and Hannah Carey's Lab (School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Comparative Biosciences), all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and members of David Relman's Lab (Departments of Medicine and Microbiology & Immunology) from Stanford University and Jeff Gordon's Lab (School of Medicine, Center for Genome Sciences) from Washington University of St. Louis.

Some photos from the meeting are below. More pictures are on the way (including larger files of the images below); please check back later!

This meeting was supported by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.
