Trying to assign sequences to OTUs using a distance matrix?
Most people do this tedious process by hand and make multiple errors

Want to construct collector's and rarefaction curves?
Most people use EstimateS which is slow and requires formatting input files

Want to compare results at various phylogenetic levels?
Most people only consider 3% difference without considering other distances

If you've answered yes to any of these questions...
You need DOTUR!

DOTUR is a computer program that takes a distance matrix describing the genetic distance between DNA sequence data and assigns sequences to operational taxonomic units (OTUs) using either the furthest, average, or nearest neighbor algorithms for all possible distances that can be described using the distance matrix.  Using the OTU composition data, DOTUR constructs collector's and rarefaction curves for sampling intensity, richness estimators, and diversity indices.  DOTUR is available for windows and as source code for compiling in MacOSX and LINUX.
