DISEASES OF SOYBEAN
SOYBEAN CYST NEMATODE

Cysts (shown at high magnification in this photo) darken as they mature and can become detached from the root system and remain viable in the soil for several years.

The most effective control for soybean cyst nematode is crop rotation. Production of a non-host for at least two years is recommended to reduce nematode populations to a level where a susceptible soybean variety can be grown. Resistant soybean varieties are available for disease control, but crop rotation is recommended even when using these varieties.
